My Thoughts: Learning About Love From My Dog

When I look into the eyes of my dog she teaches me what true love is all about. I learn from her loyalty and unconditional love just how important it is for us to be faithful and loving to one another.

Thank you, God, for giving me my dog. Her very presence gives me peace and comfort every day.

My Thoughts: My Flutes Talk To Me

Every day when I play my flute, it seems as though it talks to me. When I listen to what it says, that becomes my song. The song comes from my heart, and the music comes out as my prayer!

My Thoughts: And a Cherokee Prayer for Wisdom and Self-Control

Great Spirit,
Help me always to speak the truth quietly,
to listen with an open mind
when others speak,
and to remember the peace
that may be found in silence.
~Cherokee Prayer

When I am walking the trail, which I do almost daily, I know that Gods spirit is guiding me, and I realize that I am never alone. This gives me the strength to walk my life-path with confidence and the assurance that whatever decision I make in my life, God is leading me to a good place. I believe that each day, every step I make is part of my dance. I believe that I will always be known by the tracks I have made. If every day is a new dance, I am giving thanks daily for my new direction.

I know that others can never walk my path for me, and only I can walk in these shoes. Some may walk with me, but never walk it for me. For those who walk with me, I am grateful.

My Thoughts: Love is the Answer, Cherokee Prayer, and Bible Verses on Love!

The Bible addresses the topic of LOVE many times. It is so easy to pass judgment. We all do it continually and it often leads to fear, which leads to hatred and more. I’m striving to replace my judgment with love. Here are a few verses that I find helpful to remember when I am tempted to start judging those whom I do not understand.

Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers all wrongs. ~Proverbs 10:12

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born from a time of adversity. ~Proverbs 17:17

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. ~1 John 3:16-18

Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. ~Romans 13:10

My Thoughts: My Flute Song is a Prayer of Thanks

Wood is an awesome resource for which I am incredibly grateful. When I stop and look around, I realize so many of the things that we all enjoy and use every day of our lives come from wood. Trees supply so many of our basic needs. Our homes, furniture, and many of our household tools are created from wood. I love playing an instrument that is created from this gift from God.

When I play my flute the song that comes out of the flute is my prayer, giving thanks to God for the trees and all of the truly beautiful and amazing things in nature that he gives us.

My Thoughts: Listen to Nature

Take time to listen to what nature has to say –
the wind in the trees,
the thunder during the storm,
the sound of the rain,
the rush of a stream as the water runs over the rocks.
Listen to the voices of the animals –
the song of the birds,
and of those that crawl,
and of those that swim – they all have a voice.
All of creation can be heard in nature.
~Howard Ball

My Thoughts: Our Land is a Gift From the Creator

We belong to the land. We don’t own this land. It is a wonderful gift to all of us. If you listen, the earth will speak to you. This gift comes from the hand of our Creator and we must learn to love what he gives us. Maybe then we will remember that it is time to give thanks for what we have.

Every time I play my flute I remember that the wood that produces the sound comes from the earth. It is as if the tree that produced the wood has a way of talking back to me through the voice of the flute. In this way, when I play my flute I am thanking the Creator for everything in nature – everything that comes from the earth.

Take time to listen to what nature has to say – the wind in the trees, the thunder during the storm, the sound of the rain, the rush of a stream as the water runs over the rocks. Listen to the voices of the animals – the song of the birds, and of those that crawl, and of those that swim – they all have a voice. All of creation can be heard in nature.

My Thoughts: Pain and Suffering

howard_fan_tp_med

Every time I feel pain, either physical or emotional, I remind myself that this pain will make me stronger and that whatever comes my way will be a challenge that I will be able to face with strength and gratitude. I know that it will also be an opportunity to grow in Spirit and peace; always remembering that tomorrow is a new day. I’m confident that each day will bring new and exciting blessings.

My Thoughts: Looking into the Eyes of my Dog

Sometimes when I look into the eyes of my dog, I understand that all of God’s creatures have a loving spirit, and my soul is blessed.

“Perhaps one central reason for loving dogs is that they take us away from this obsession with ourselves. When our thoughts start to go in circles, and we seem unable to break away, wondering what horrible event the future holds for us, the dog opens a window into the delight of the moment.”
~Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson

My Thoughts: Rise Above the Storm

eagle_rise_med

When there is a storm in the air all of the other birds seem to seek refuge, but the eagle flies above the storm and observes what is happening. Sometimes I will hear him speaking high above the trees. I want to be more like the eagle and rise above the storms in my life. Thank you Father

My Thoughts: Walking the Trail

~When I am walking on the trail, I realize that my inner spirit is guiding me, and I know that I am never alone. This gives me the strength to walk my path with confidence and assurance that whatever decision I make in my life I will be led to do the right thing.

~I desire to always be known by the tracks I have made.  Every day is like a dance, and I pray that I will have a good dance each day, and give thanks for my new direction.

~My friends can walk beside me, but we must each walk our own path.

~I desire to be able to accept with gratitude the gifts God has given me; to understand myself and my shortcomings, and to thank God for everything!

~I want to grow with honesty, integrity, and to always love others as I love myself.

My Thoughts: The Spirit of the Flute, A Song of the Heart

Today, while walking in the woods and playing my flute, I realized how much the voice of the flute was like my own voice.  The song comes from my heart and moves through the wood as a form of a prayer. The outside beauty of the flute has little to do with its voice. Just like people, what is on the outside, or how they look, should have nothing to do with what is on the inside.

We need to learn to look for beauty from within. What a person says and does shows through their actions, and often their actions are show their true spirit.

As an artist, I endeavor to make each flute beautiful. However, it is the sound of the flute that is truly important. Each flute that I create has a special voice – no two are exactly alike. Each kind of wood produces a different vibration, and the voice is never the same. In addition, the person playing the flute makes it sound different! Each flute is truly unique. The wood comes from mother earth, and all of her children are unique.

Why do the animals and birds like the voice of the flutes?  Why do we feel calm and at peace when we hear that voice? Different sounds give us different feelings. What a pleasure to play an instrument that has been played on this earth for thousands of years.
